Pick the program that is right for you. First decide what you want to do with your new CDL license. Do you want a class A or B license? Do you want to stay local? Do you want to go over the road? Do you have some previous experience?
First the basics:
Type of CDL
Type of Truck
Type of Work
Class B: Big truck/bus (no trailer)
Dump truck, trash truck, bus, delivery
Local
Class A: Big truck with a trailer.
18 wheeler, city delivery- semi, construction
Local/long haul
How do you get one of those licenses? Well, you need to pass the tests. Three tests:
Where do I get training and how much? At CDL College, the type and amount of training depends on:
Work. What do you want to do with your license?
You. Do you have any experience?
Here are recommendations depending on your answers.
I only want to stay local. I want a new job as fast and least expensive as possible. I have no previous experience. Go for a class B truck or bus. In town there are many decent jobs for a delivery driver, bus driver or construction worker. It depends on you. But you can probably get away with a few hours of in truck or bus training and the test. Estimated cost: $390.00. Call and schedule an appointment.
I only want to stay local. I want to a class A license maybe a small city semi or a utility worker for the city; definitely not an 18 wheeler. I have a little experience backing trailers but could use a little practice. Go for a class A. Take our by the hour course. Only take the number of hours you need. Take the test when you are ready. The number of hours depends on you. The price: $70 per hour for training (just you and an instructor in our city tractor trailer), the test in our truck $250.00. Call and schedule an appointment.
I only want to stay local but I want to learn how to drive the big one. I want to learn how to shift a 10 speed, turn a 53’ trailer and parallel park a 70’ vehicle. I want to go to rifle and work in the oil fields or drive an end dump around town. I want to impress my friends and family. But I do not want to go long haul. Take our 40 hour course. We are open enrollment so it does not have to be 40 hours in a row. We are open 7 days a week and evenings. We will teach you to drive the big truck and give you the skills test. The course includes classroom, computer lab, simulator and behind the wheel time. Finding the right job is up to you. We will have some leads but you need to find your own way with this one. This course is not long enough for a long haul company. The price: $1344.00. Come down and check us out anytime, no need to call.
None of the local stuff for me; I want to keep my options open. I want to see the country. I want a chance to make some good money in this life. I may even want to buy one of those things and start my own business. I am going long haul. Our big course is a great way into the industry. We will get you pre-approved for a job; we work with several carriers. We are not under contract with any of them. We will give you our honest opinion and let you pick. No contract, no future bills just take the course and start your new career. Like we said before, we are open enrollment. The only school that we know of in the country. Keep your day job, take care of your kids, do whatever you do. Pick your own schedule.
This course takes 20 days if you come full time (8 hours a day). If you only come part-time; do the math. We are open 7 days and week and evenings too. The course includes classroom, computer lab, simulator and behind the wheel time. The price: $3219. Come down and check us out anytime, no need to call.
